Counselling & Psychotherapy

You do not have to hold it together alone.
Counselling and psychotherapy in downtown Toronto and online. Available in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
Most people start therapy after months of managing on their own. From the outside, things look fine: you go to work, answer messages, and show up for everyone else. Inside, however, something has been quietly wearing thin.
If English is not the language you think in
Sessions are also available in Mandarin (普通话) and Cantonese (廣東話).
This matters more than it sounds. Describing grief, shame, family obligation, or homesickness in a second language often means saying a simpler version of the truth. If your inner life happens in Chinese, you can have this conversation in Chinese.
Cultural context is part of the work rather than something you have to explain first. Family expectations, the weight of being the one who was sent abroad, the pressure to justify the sacrifice, the particular loneliness of building a life among people who did not know the earlier version of you. These are understood in the room.
And if English is your first language, none of the above changes anything about the care you will receive. It is simply one more door into the same room.
Coverage and cost
Counselling with a Registered Social Worker is not covered by OHIP, and we would rather say so up front than have you discover it later.
It is commonly covered by workplace and extended health benefits, employee assistance programs, and student health plans. Coverage is often better than people expect. If you are unsure what your plan includes, call us and we will help you check before you book.
Help is one phone call away
Tell us briefly what is going on. We will explain how sessions work, help you check your insurance, and book you in, usually within the same week. If calling feels like too much right now, send us the intake form instead and we will reach out to you.
436 Dundas Street West, Toronto, across from the AGO Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis to talk to someone. You only need the sense that carrying this alone has stopped working. Perhaps work has hollowed out, or a close relationship is fractured. Maybe you are grieving, managing the invisible pressures of parenting or school, or navigating a good life that still feels unaccountably lonely. Or perhaps you simply feel anxious, flat, and stretched thin without one clear reason why. Whoever you are and however you got here, none of it is too small to bring in.
What sessions are like
Sessions are one to one, calm, and unhurried. There is no script to follow and nothing you must disclose before you are ready.
In the first session we talk about what brought you in and what you hope might change. From there the work is collaborative: what you are feeling and why, the patterns you keep returning to, and what a workable next step looks like in your actual life rather than an idealised one.
Some people come for a handful of sessions to get through a particular period. Others stay longer. Both are normal, and you are never locked into anything.
Your therapist is Sze Yan (Linda) Lau, MSW, RSW, a Registered Social Worker and psychotherapist. She works with adults of all backgrounds on anxiety, stress, low mood, self-criticism, relationships, grief, and periods of change. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and trauma informed.

Clarity on next steps—without guesswork
If you have been carrying a lot on your own, booking a first conversation can be a good place to begin. Counselling and psychotherapy can offer space to reflect, feel heard, and move forward with greater clarity and support.
